Indian man has woman's hands following rare double limb transplant [NSTTV]

NEW DELHI: A man in India now possesses the hands of a woman after undergoing a rare double limb transplant.

The recipient was a painter and received the organs from Meena Mehta, a woman who had been declared brain dead but had pledged to donate her organs following her death, according to Dr S.S. Gambhir, a senior plastic surgeon who was involved in the operation.

It was the first such procedure in New Delhi, according to the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, where the operation was conducted.

Local media said the surgery took place in January, lasted around 12 hours and the patient had recovered well. — REUTERS
