'Al-Shifa hospital now a grave of patients, medical personnel and refugees' [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: The Israeli army has left the Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza after two weeks of surrounding it, attacking and burning the major health facility.

However, Aman Palestin chief executive officer in Gaza, Omar Sayem said the hospital was now severely damaged beyond recognition.

He also described the place as a mass grave of patients, medical personnel, families and refugees.

"Today, we saw the full destruction towards this 700-bed capacity facility which is the most important hospital in Gaza; the Al-Shifa Medical Complex," he said when contacted by Berita Harian today.

Omar said the hospital was built 78 years ago under a mandate from the British government and the name 'Shifa', which means the house for healing was no longer relevant because it was now akin to a house of deaths due to the attacks from Israel and its ally, the United States.

"What has happened is symbolic on the part of the Israeli occupier, which does not have any humanity as they want to wipe out Palestinians and our social institutions and our lives.

"The United States government, European Union and the United Kingdom should be ashamed of themselves for conspiring in supporting Israel's war crimes and its violence against humanity.

"Look carefully at the killing zone at Al-Shifa, and never forget the mass murders committed in Gaza. Never forget who did it and the powers which took part in it."

When asked if the hospital complex could be repaired, Omar said the facility was completely destroyed and it could not possibly be used ever again.

"The Al-Shifa Hospital was the biggest medical complex and it is destroyed. It is completely razed to the ground."

Omar said even with aid being air-dropped in the territory, these were too little and it could not meet the needs of the Palestinians.

"Air dropped aid cannot resolve the problem of famine. We need more than 1,000 lorries of food and medicine daily."

Omar said the air dropped aid have has also led to deaths among refugees when the large boxes fell on some of the victims' heads, while others were dragged into the sea trying to get the aid.
