Nigerian man falls to his death while running from police

GEORGE TOWN: A Nigerian man was found dead after he is believed to have fallen from the 16th floor of a condominium in Batu Uban here last night.

It is learnt that the victim fell while trying to escape following a police raid at the unit, believed to be used for drug activities.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Razlam Ab Hamid said, in the 6pm incident, police raided the house after receiving information about drug activities.

"When we knocked on the door, a man, believed to be a Nigerian, came out.

"He then went in again and locked the grille door, realising it was the police," he said today.

Razlam said police then broke into the unit but could not find the Nigerian man who opened it earlier.

"There was another man, also believed to be a Nigerian, inside the unit and we arrested him.

"Since we could not find the man who opened the door earlier, we conducted a further search in the area.

"We then found the body of a man lying on the ground floor of the condominium, believed to be the same man who opened the door," he added.

He added that another Nigerian man, believed to be their friend, was detained while trying to flee at the 8th floor of the condominium.

"Police found ecstasy and syabu inside the house they rented later," he said.

The case is probed under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 while the case of three deceased man was classified as sudden death (SDR).
