Hidden camera in Jelutong homestay bathroom: Cops tracking down another man

GEORGE TOWN: Police are currently tracking down another man to assist investigations into the discovery of a "spy" camera found hidden in a homestay in Jelutong recently.

Northeast police chief Assistant Commissioner Razlam Ab Hamid said initial investigations revealed that the mobile phone belonging to the man was linked to the hidden camera installed in the air freshener container found inside the homestay's bathroom.

He said, so far, police have recorded statements from four people, including the 24-year-old complainant who is a student at a university, and the manager of the premises.

"Based on the investigations and statements recorded so far, the police are looking for the man whose phone is linked to the hidden camera found at the homestay. Police are also investigating this case from various other angles," he said when contacted today.

Razlam said the case was being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a person and under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

Earlier a video had gone viral on social media where a woman was seen describing her holiday as nothing short of a nightmare upon discovering a hidden camera concealed in an air freshener container while bathing at a homestay in Penang.

Yesterday, it was reported that police confirmed receiving a report from the woman, but preliminary examination found no images or videos stored in the camera.

The woman was reported to have checked into the homestay with three friends on Feb 5, for a vacation before she made the discovery at about 8pm the next day.
