Plantation and Commodities Ministry to collaborate with MTIB to streamline industry's ESG framework

KUALA LUMPUR: The Plantation and Commodities Ministry will meet with the Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB) to collaborate and streamline the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) framework in the industry.

Its minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said that this effort is aimed at harmonising the elements of conservation and industrialisation.

This comes after Johari received a courtesy visit from the Malaysian International Chamber Of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) which is the oldest chamber of commerce and industry in Malaysia, established in 1837.

"They have highlighted issues related to the timber industry where the ministry will discuss with the MTIB to work closely with industry players to streamline the ESG framework in the industry so as to harmonise the elements conservation and industrialisation.

"We also discussed other issues in the palm industry, including developing a 'circular economy' for palm oil trunks," he said.

Johari, through a Facebook post, said this is also in line with his efforts as the minister to further strengthen Malaysia's commitment to the commodity sustainability agenda.
