Covid-19: 88 deaths, including 26 BID yesterday

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia logged another 88 Covid-19 deaths as of 11.59pm yesterday.

The figure includes 26 cases that were brought-in-dead (BID), according to data shared on the Health Ministry's CovidNow portal.

To date, the coronavirus has claimed 27,858 lives including 5,635 BID victims.

At the national level, there was an average of 31.5 deaths per one million people over the past two weeks, while Klang Valley stood at 15.1 per one million people over the same period.

Perlis recorded the most number of deaths per one million people in the same period, with 82.4 deaths, followed by Sarawak (63.6) and Penang (61.5).

This was followed by Kelantan (43.0), Perak (39.0), Johor (37.3), Sabah (32.5), Melaka (24.7), Terengganu (21.4), Kedah (21.1), Pahang (19.7), Kuala Lumpur (18.0), Negri Sembilan (15.1), Selangor (14.4), Putrajaya (9.1) and Labuan with zero fatality rate.

According to the data, 47.5 per cent of reported deaths related to Covid-19 involved people who were unvaccinated against the virus for the past two weeks.

Partially vaccinated people accounted for 10.1 per cent of the total fatalities linked to the coronavirus in the country, and 42.4 per cent of the total deaths were those who have been fully vaccinated.

The data available on the portal also stated that most of the people who died from the virus were aged 60 and above (70.8 per cent) while people aged from 18 to 59 accounted for 28.2 per cent of the fatalities, followed by those aged 0 to 11 years old (0.4 per cent) and 12 to 17 (0.4 per cent).

Currently, 67.8 per cent of the total population has been fully vaccinated against the virus, involving 22,146,626 individuals, while 7.9 per cent (2,569,156 individuals) have received at least one dose, and 24.3 per cent (7,941,618 individuals) were unvaccinated.

It is projected that the country would achieve its goal of fully 80 per cent immunity of the population in 61 days by Dec 17.

Meanwhile, 77.1 per cent of Covid-19 cases (73,507) are under home quarantine; 15.1 per cent (or 14,401) have been placed at Integrated Quarantine and Treatment Centres, and 7.1 per cent (or 6,793) are hospitalised.

The Health Ministry reported 694 patients currently being treated at Intensive Care Units (ICU) at healthcare facilities nationwide.

Of the total, 344 are ventilated.

On ICU utilisation, the rate nationwide stood at 60 per cent.

Sarawak reported the highest ICU utilisation rate at 79.8 per cent, followed by Perak (73.5), Penang (70.3), Johor (68), Kuala Lumpur (68), Kelantan (67.7), Selangor (61.4), Sabah (55.5), Terengganu (54.4), Perlis (52.6), Kedah (50), Putrajaya (50), Pahang (49.2), Melaka (48.9), Labuan (17.4) and Negri Sembilan (17.3).

Malaysia had on Saturday reported 7,509 new Covid-19 cases, taking the cumulative number of cases to 2,384,542 since the pandemic struck the nation last year.

Selangor topped the list with 1,744 new infections, followed by Sarawak with 1,055 and Johor with 753.

Kelantan reported 688 new cases, followed by Sabah with 639, Penang (411), Kedah (403), Terengganu (383), Perak (307), Pahang (301), Melaka (261), Kuala Lumpur (259) and Negri Sembilan with 236 new cases.

Putrajaya, Perlis, and Labuan recorded 37, 30, and two cases respectively.

Another nine new clusters were reported yesterday, involving four workplace clusters, three educational institutes-linked clusters, one education ministry institute cluster, and one community cluster.
