Cooperative set up to provide business opportunities for people in Muar, Pagoh

MUAR: An initiative to provide business opportunities and entrepreneurship support for people in Muar and Pagoh was established recently.

The Sahabat Pagoh Niaga Muar Berhad (SPNMB) cooperative aims to focus on agricultural entrepreneurship for 50 members in Pagoh for a start.

It will also help grocery marts, food and beverage businesses as well as events management in Muar.

"Currently, many Pagoh youth are without income. With this cooperative, they can earn a living as agropreneurs. They can start farming and within a few months be able to make a living," said cooperative chairman Muhammad Shamsuddin Paijan.

The first general meeting was held at Nasuha Herbal Restaurant in Pagoh and attended by Malaysia Co-operative Societies Commission of Malaysia (SKM) Muar representative Halizah Yasin.

With more than 60 attendees, SPNMB is off to a good start with a membership fee of only RM50.

Haliza said SKM encouraged cooperatives to assist youths to set up sustainable businesses.
