Malaysian MPs urged to show solidarity with Palestinians amid ongoing violence

JOHOR BARU: Members of parliament have been urged to join in solidarity with the Palestinians' struggle in light of the ongoing violence.

Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim has called on his fellow parliamentarians to show their support for the Palestinians' cause.

"A Palestinian cultural organisation delegation had visited our Parliament over a month ago to meet with members from the government bloc, but the reception was lukewarm on our side.

"Not many parliamentarians were present, except for a few MPs from (PKR) who still showed interest, support, and sympathy for the Palestinians," he said.

He called for Malaysians to support the Palestinians, as the majority of the international community continually takes a stance against all forms of cruelty and oppression against the Palestinian population.

Hassan said, during the meeting last month, the focus was on the Palestinians' quest for independence from Israeli occupation.

"During the meeting, I had the opportunity to speak, and I emphasised one crucial matter — Palestinians should not abandon their struggle."

Earlier, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had stated that Malaysia remains firm and steadfast in its stand that the Palestinians must be granted absolute freedom from Israel's illegal occupation.
