KEMAMAN: The doors at 49 polling stations for the Kemaman parliamentary seat by-election opened at 8am today to allow 141,043 individuals to cast their ballots.
The polling centres involving 244 streams will be open until 6pm today before all ballot boxes are taken to the official vote tallying centre at Dewan Berlian of the Kemaman Municipal Council. Results are expected by 9pm.
Election Commission (EC) secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak said 2,102 election workers will be deployed at polling stations throughout the constituency.
He said voters can check the information on their respective polling station, polling stream and voter number on EC's official portal at https://mysprsemak.spr.gov.my.
"Voters must not hand over their MyKad to anyone except the election workers," he said in a statement.
Kemaman district officer Ahmad Farhan Abdul Wahab will be the returning officer for the Kemaman by-election, the first in Terengganu after the Aug 12 state elections.
Kemaman will see a straight fight between Barisan Nasional's General (Rtd) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor and Perikatan Nasional's Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.
The by-election was called following the decision of the Terengganu Election Court on Sept 26 to annul the victory of Pas candidate Che Alias Hamid in the 15th general election (GE15).
Pas managed a clean sweep of the parliamentary seats in Terengganu in GE15, winning all eight and securing all 32 state seats for the first time during the state polls in August.
In GE15, Che Alias won by a 27,179 majority after securing 65,714 votes in a four-cornered battle.
