VILLAGERS of Kampung Buntong in Ipoh, Perak, are living in fear of stray dogs.
K. Kumara, 45, said more than 10 dogs had been chasing after motorists and rummaging through rubbish bins for about four months.
“Children are forced to stay indoors as we are afraid that the dogs will bite them. No one has been attacked by the dogs, so far, but it may only be a matter of time before someone is bitten. Their incessant barking keeps us up at night.”
Another resident, who wished to be known as Lim, said: “We do not want another case of rabies in the state. We are afraid for our health and safety. Even though we have reported this matter to the city council several times, no action has been taken.

An Ipoh City Council spokes-man said an operation would be conducted soon to catch str-ay dogs in Ipoh.
“We are aware of the stray dogs in Kampung Buntong,” he said, adding that, as of last year, 3,000 stray dogs were captured in Ipoh.
“We understand that the strays can pose health and safety risks to the public.”
