Hypermarket staff rude to shopper

A SHOPPER at a hypermarket chain has claimed that he was subjected to foul language and rude behaviour by its cashier and duty manager in Shah Alam on Saturday.

Kevin Ray, 28, said when he was making payment at Tesco Bukit Beruntung, its cashier merely threw the items he bought into the shopping bag.

“I bought three T-shirts. Not only did she not stand up while serving customers, she also threw my items into the shopping bag as if she was angry.

“I do not think this was the right way to treat customers.

“She did not even look at me when processing the transaction.”

Dissatisfied, he proceeded to the customer service counter to lodge a complaint with the manager.

“I spoke to the duty manager, but he did not want to listen.

“Instead, he defended the cashier and this made me lose my temper.

“We ended up in an argument. He even uttered a foul word to me.

“He said, ‘If you want to show your character here, I can show mine, too.

“I did not expect him to say such things, especially to customers.

“I requested to meet the store manager, but he said the latter was on his day-off.”

Kevin said this was the first time he encountered such behaviour from Tesco staff.

“I have been to many Tesco outlets in the Klang Valley, but this was my first visit to the Bukit Beruntung Tesco.”

ACTIONLINE:

A Tesco headquarters call operator, only known as Zulaikha, noted down the complaint yesterday.

She said she would forward the issue to the officer in charge of customers’ complaints.

Zulaikha said Tesco officers had tried contacting the duty manager but to no avail.

“We will identify the duty manager and find out what transpired that day before the management can take action,” she said.
