Uncollected garbage irks residents

RESIDENTS in Brinchang, Cameron Highlands claimed that rubbish was not collected regularly in the surrounding areas recently.

Ramakrishnan Ramasamy said the uncollected waste could attract rodents.

“It not only stinks, it is an eyesore. Residents are concerned with the growing amount of garbage every day.”

Ramakrishnan, who is also Environment Awareness Cameron Highlands president, alleged that the council was not collecting rubbish regularly because of traffic congestion.

He said garbage collectors had difficulty accessing the communal bins due to haphazard parking.

Cameron Highlands District Council president Datuk Zainal Abidin Md Amin said it was looking into the residents’ complaints.

“I have checked with my contractors and they will clear it by 5pm today (yesterday).

“They need some time because the traffic in this area is very congested,” he said.

Zainal Abidin said there had been an influx of tourists due to the school holidays.
