Uncollected tree branches an eyesore

branches near Sungai Air Hitam along Jalan Utama in George Town have been left uncollected for more than a week, becoming an eyesore to passers-by.

To compound matters, the area, which is located within walking distance of the Penang Governor’s residence and Penang Hospital, is also fast turning into a dumpsite as plastic bags filled with garbage are thrown all over the area.

V. Arumugham, 57, who frequently exercises at the nearby Padang Polo, said the rubbish was left by people who came in vehicles.

“I saw them alighting from their vehicles and just dumping their garbage there before leaving.

“I did not manage to see their faces clearly as it was early in the morning.

“Even so, at least the tree branches should have been cleared.

“This could turn into an eyesore if not solved quickly,” he said when met.

Checks by NST Actionline found that a housing project was taking place beside the river.
