Bursa Malaysia higher at mid-afternoon

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia remained higher at mid-afternoon today on gains in heavyweights led by Petronas Chemicals, Genting, Tenaga and Maybank.

At 3 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 3.03 points to 1,774.65 after opening 0.15 of-a-point easier at 1,771,47 from Monday's close of 1,771.62.

On the broader market, losers were slightly higher than gainers by 370 to 347 with 372 counters unchanged, 752 counters untraded and 40 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.1 billion shares worth RM887.13 million.

Petronas Chemicals, Genting, Tenaga and Maybank contributed a combined 1.55 points to the composite index.

Petronas Chemicals rose three sen to RM7.23, Genting increased six sen to RM9.79, Tenaga gained four sen to RM14.26, while Maybank was two sen better at RM9.62.

Among heavyweights, Public Bank and Maxis were flat at RM20.58 and RM5.78, DiGi rose two sen to RM4.86, while CIMB fell one sen to RM6.74.

Of the actives, Mlabs Systems added 2.5 sen to 24.5 sen, Dagang Nexchange inched up 1.5 sen to 51.5 sen, while JAG and AirAsia X were flat to 14.5 sen and 36.5 sen, respectively.

The FBM Emas Index rose 22.27 points to 12,617.56, FBM Emas Shariah Index increased 27.64 points to 12,777.11 and the FBMT 100 Index was 22.26 better at 12,274.76.

The FBM 70 advanced 32.05 points to 14,986.46 and the FBM Ace gained 10.07 points to 6,566.95.

Sector-wise, the Finance Index improved 11.49 points to 16,751,32, the Industrial Index added 4.98 points to 3,225.63, but the Plantation Index fell 9.61 points at 7,795.38. - Bernama
