Columbia Asia invested RM100m in newest hospital in Klang

KLANG: Private healthcare firm Columbia Asia Sdn Bhd has invested a total of RM100 million in its newest and 12th Malaysia-based overall hospital in Klang.

“The investment of RM100 million encompasses everything from the land, the structure, the equipments and everything else,” said chief executive officer of Columbia Asia-Southeast Asia Kelvin Tan at the launch today.

“However, we might look into investing further sometime down the line if we need to further enlarge the operations, as we have done something similar with some of our hospitals previously.”

Tan shared that the location for the new hospital was chosen based on continued demand from the group’s insurance partners.

“Almost 70 per cent of our revenue is derived from insurance providers and other third parties with linkages to corporates. We picked this location because many employees of these corporates live or work here, so it made sense,” said Tan.

He noted that Klang as community has been flourishing both economically and population-wise through the many developments of townships, residential areas as well as commercial properties.

“Based on the location, we will be able to provide healthcare services for Klang residents particularly in Setia Alam, Bukit Raja, Bandar Baru Klang, Kapar and Pekan Meru,” said Tan.

The new hospital is located on a two-hectare plot at Mutiara Bukit Raja 2 Klang.

Established in 1996, the healthcare group is now present across Asia with 29 hospitals including the Klang hospital.

In Malaysia, it is present in Bintulu, Bukit Rimau, Cheras, Iskandar Puteri, Miri, Petaling Jaya, Puchong, Seremban, Setapak, Shah Alam, Taiping and now Klang.

The group is 30 per cent-owned by the Employees Provident Fund, while the remaining 70 per cent is held by an American fund, the International Columbia USA LLC.
