Sarawak Heart Centre achieves top 100 ranking in Asia Pacific

KUCHING: Sarawak has marked a significant milestone in the health sector, particularly in cardiology, after the Sarawak Heart Centre secured a place among the top 100 cardiology hospitals in the Asia Pacific region, as recognised by Newsweek Magazine last year.

According to the Sarawak Public Communications Unit, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, highlighted this achievement during the 8th Anniversary of the SUPP Batu Kitang and the Chinese New Year Gala Dinner in Kuching. He emphasised the potential for Sarawak to further excel in health services with adequate support in terms of funding and authority.

"Last year, Newsweek acknowledged our heart centre as one of the top 100 in the Asia Pacific. Give us the opportunity, and many in Sarawak can achieve even more.

"We are not just talking about money because if the Federal Government provides sufficient funding, we can be in the top 10," he said.

He also added that among all public hospitals, only Sarawak's has been recognised in the top 100 in Asia Pacific, proving the state's capability to provide premier healthcare services.

"Give us the opportunity, return the power, and recognise our contributions in offering treatment services to 245,000 Sarawakians over the past 22 years," he said.

Batu Kitang Assemblyman, Datuk Lo Khere Chiang reinforced the Deputy Premier's statements. Lo called for unity among Sarawakians under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government to reclaim health and education autonomy for the state.

He also expressed his gratitude towards Sim for actively advocating for enhanced health facilities, heart centres, and Sarawak's health autonomy from the Federal Government.
