Prasarana may award up to RM2b LRT3 contracts by year end

PUCHONG: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd is expected to dish out more tenders which may be worth close to RM2 billion for Light Rail Transit (LRT) 3 before identifying the total cost of the project next year.

Chief executive officer Datuk Seri Azmi Abdul Aziz said it would award one last big tender by year-end and other small tenders through to next year.

“We will see by next year the target cost of the project. So far, there is only one big tender to be awarded and we hope to do it by end of the year. After awarding all the tenders previously, we are happy that work for the project has begun,” he told a press conference here at the launch of SMILE today.

Prasarana, the project owner of LRT3, has dished out a total of RM7.4 billion worth of LRT3 tenders so far. The total project cost is expected to be around RM9 billion, according to reports.

Sunway Construction Group Bhd came up as the bigger winner following the Letter of Award from Prasarana worth RM2.18 billion for LRT 3 project.

The contract, which boosts SunCon’s outstanding order book to RM6.5 billion, is its largest single project in 36 years.

Other winners of LRT3 big tenders include Mudajaya Group Bhd, WCT Holdings, CRRC-Tegap Dinamik JV, TRC Synergy and Gabungan AQRS Bhd.

Meanwhile, SMILE is Prasarana’s initiative to further enhance the quality of its services in line with its mission of becoming a world class public transport service provider.

The program targets three key groups including Rapid Rail, Rapid Bus and aid police teams together with Rapid Rail Academy and Rapid Bus Academy.

Other than fostering closer relationship with customers and highlighting a cheerful and friendly service, Azmi said the program also aims to nurture a friendly culture among employees.
