Sime Darby Property still searching for a new Group MD

KUALA LUMPUR: It could take some time before Sime Darby Property Bhd (SD Property) names a new group managing director, says its chairman Tan Sri Zeti Akhtar Aziz.

Zeti said the process could take "a few weeks or a couple of months".

"We are looking at every option and we want (to appoint) the best person who can lead the company and take it forward. This could take a few weeks or a couple of months," she told reporters after SD Property’s annual general meeting here today.

Today will be the last day of Datuk Seri Amrin Awaluddin, 52, who has resigned as SD Property’s group MD.

Amrin has in turned been appointed group MD of Boustead Holdings Bhd, following the resignation of Tan Sri Lodin Wok Kamaruddin last December.

In the interim, Datuk Wan Hashimi AlBakri Wan Ahmad Amin Jaffri, SD Property’s current chief operating officer of township development, will be acting MD.

On the current issue of property overhang, Zeti said SD Property had set a very ambitious target for this year while striving to manage its inventory.

"For us, our inventory has been reduced and our new launches have been very successful. It is about giving what the market needs and therefore going forward, we will try to manage that overhang. "We have very ambitious target this year," she added.
