Former MCMC chairman and chief executive is Bina Darulaman's new chairman

KUALA LUMPUR: Bina Darulaman Bhd has appointed former chairman and chief executive of Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission Datuk Mohamed Sharil Mohamed Tarmizi as its new chairman with effect from September 1.

Sharil has extensive experience working in the corporate sector, Bina Darulaman said in a statement today.

He was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1994 and was formerly an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.

He started his career as an advocate and solicitor with established legal firms, Azman Davidson & Co. and later, Zaid Ibrahim & Co. specialising in construction, property development and privatisation before becoming a partner in an investment advisory firm.

He was MCMC chairman and chief executive from October 16 2011 to December 31 2014.

In the international arena, Sharil was a board member of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the global internet domain name coordinating body, and chairman of ICANN's Government Advisory Committee from 2004 to 2007.

He has worked closely with international organisations such as ICANN, Internet Society, International Telecommunications Union, the World Bank, the World Trade Organisation, Asia Pacific Telecommunity, Pacific Islands Telecoms Association, Commonwealth Telecoms Organisation, International Institute of Communications, the Universal Postal Union and UNICEF.
