Prasarana's CEO appointment is not under MoT: Loke

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Transport (MoT) says the appointment of Prasarana Malaysia Bhd’s (Prasarana) top management is not under its purview.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said Prasarana is under the Ministry of Finance (MoF), via wholly-owned subsidiary Minister of Finance Inc.

“Anything about the management (changes) is better answered by the (Prasarana) board as the decision comes from it and not from MoT.

“Prasarana is a company under MoF Inc, hence any appointments will have to go to its board and MoF,” he said at a briefing on Prasarana 2019 ridership performance here today.

Loke was responding on the suspension of Prasarana president and chief executive officer Mohamed Hazlan Mohamed Hussain, following the board of directors’ decision reportedly announced last December.

Prasarana is a 100 per cent government-owned company, set up by MoF as a corporate body established under the Minister of Finance Act 1957 to own the assets of multi-modal public transport operator Malaysia, under the government's move to restructure the city's public transport system.

It was reported that Mohamed Hazlan’s suspension was due to “public dissatisfaction” over the light rail transit (LRT) services, which Prasarana operates.

The complaints included late notifications of LRT breakdowns.
