GTI collaborates with Massachusetts Institute of Technology

KUALA LUMPUR: The combined entity of Graphjet Technology Sdn Bhd (GTSB) and Energem Corp has collaborated with the US-based Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to work on the graphite and graphene industry.

GTSB and Energem, under a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) GTI, aim to meet with leading faculty and researchers at MIT and reaffirm their pioneering position in the graphite and graphene industry.

This includes private, customised executive briefings designed to enhance strategic planning, examine emerging research and technology, and offer fresh and out-of-the-box thinking on issues related to corporate management.

GTI co-founder, executive director and chief executive officer Aiden Lee the company considered technology the key to success.

"We are constantly looking for opportunities to connect and cooperate with the world's leading businesses and partners to develop and apply the latest technologies to bring more benefits to our customers.

Becoming a member of MIT, GTI has the opportunity to approach the leading companies and talents in the industry, and together we can find our ways for high-class products and services," he said in a statement.

He noted that among the key benefits of the collaboration is the access to innovative researchers and leaders that will assist GTI in conducting research and promoting technological development in areas such as big data, automobiles, manufacturing, healthcare and others.

"Aside from that, these private customised executive briefings also help connect GTI with other startups and technology-driven companies that are members of MIT.

"Through this collaboration, we are part of the members of MIT, allowing us to have the opportunity to approach leading companies and talents in the industry, as well as to develop high-class products and services," added Lee.

GTSB is a Malaysian-based single-layer graphene producer that has developed a revolutionary patented technology that will transform palm kernel shell, a waste from palm kernel production, into single-layer graphene, at a significantly lower cost than the current production of graphene.

GTSB is en route for a listing targeted to complete in the fourth quarter of 2022  through a merger and SPAC transaction with Energem Corp, a NASDAQ-listed SPAC.

MIT senior director Todd Glickman said the institute was pleased to welcome its first member from Malaysia.

"This demonstrates GTI's pioneering role and commitment to promoting the sector of technology-industrial.

"As a member of MIT, GTI is contributing to the world's best practice network along with leading members in multiple fields, as well as easily connecting needs among other businesses, sharing, learning to progress together towards common goals," added Glickman.
