Window dressing, good sentiments boost Bursa Malaysia at midday

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia receives a boost before the midday break in the form of favourable sentiments in global markets and window dressing activities. 

At 12.30pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) climbed up 2.99 points, or 0.21 per cent to 1,453.77 from Tuesday's close of 1,450.78. 

The FBM KLCI started the day at 1.59 points higher, opening at 1,452.37. 

It fluctuated within the range of 1,452.08 and 1,455.42 during the entire morning session. 

On the broader market, gainers led decliners 391 to 379 while 413 counters were unchanged. 

Turnover stood at 1.84 billion units valued at RM937.18 million. 

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd head of research Kenny Yee Shen Pin expects some accumulation on banking stocks to emerge following a week of decline. 

Overall, he said the sentiment may still be lacklustre. Hence, the firm expects the index to hover within the 1,450 to 1,460 range today. 

Of the actives, Sarawak Cable Bhd added seven sen to 35 sen and Widad Group Bhd improved half a sen to 48 sen, while Zelan Bhd was 1.5 sen better at nine sen and Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd was one sen higher to 91 sen.
