Raja Affandi voluntarily resigned from LTAT chairman post, says defence minister

KUALA LUMPUR: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin today confirmed that General (Rtd) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor resigned from his position as the Armed Forces Fund Board's (LTAT) chairman.

"I was using what was released (referring to a statement issued by LTAT on Raja Affandi's supposed retirement), as LTAT also used it.

"Yes, he resigned (from the position). There is no issue with that. (He did so) voluntarily," he told a press conference after the launch of the mid-term review of the Defence White Paper at Wisma Perwira here today.

Khaled was asked to clarify the "resignation or retirement" issue surrounding Raja Affandi.

On Sunday (Feb 11), Raja Affandi maintained his statement that he had resigned from the post.

Speaking to the "New Straits Times", Raja Affandi said the resignation letter was "straightforward".

As such, he said he did not understand why it was being disputed.

It was previously reported that the "Business Times" had sighted Raja Affandi's cover letter dated Feb 7, which was addressed to Isham's office, clearly stating the former had resigned from his post.

The day after the letter was sent, LTAT announced that Raja Affandi had retired.

Two days later, the former armed forces chief denied that he had retired, but had resigned.

Khaled, on Saturday (Feb 10), persisted in standing by the LTAT statement that Raja Affandi had retired and not resigned.

Raja Affandi was appointed LTAT chairman on Aug 3, 2021, succeeding Tan Sri Mohd Zahidi Zainuddin, who completed his service across three years from August 2018.
