Samaiden signs solar PPA with Maxell Tohshin

KUALA LUMPUR: Samaiden Group Bhd has inked a 20-year solar energy power purchase agreement (PPA) with Maxell Tohshin (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

In a statement today, Samaiden said the agreement marks a pivotal commitment to sustainable energy use in manufacturing, underscoring a mutual dedication to environmental responsibility.

Under the agreement, Samaiden will undertake the design and installation of an advanced solar PV system, boasting a capacity of 1,028.28-kilowatt peak (kWp) at Maxell Tohshin premises.

This initiative is expected to significantly curtail carbon emissions from manufacturing operations, projecting an estimated carbon dioxide (CO2) avoidance of 974.66 tonnes per year, which aligns with both companies' visions for a greener industrial future.

Samaiden group managing director Chow Pui Hee said the 20-year PPA with Maxell Tohshin represents a unified front in the battle against climate change, emphasising its collective responsibility towards a more sustainable industrial landscape.

"By integrating cutting-edge solar technology into their operations, Maxell Tohshin not only demonstrates environmental stewardship but also paves the way for innovative energy solutions within the manufacturing sector.

"Our collaboration is a beacon of progress, showcasing the potential of renewable energy (RE) to revolutionise traditional industries while maintaining economic growth and environmental integrity," she added.

Maxell Tohshin managing director Nobuki Yahiro said the partnership is a significant stride towards embedding sustainability into the company's core operations.

"It reflects our proactive approach to embracing RE solutions, reducing our environmental impact, and adhering to the highest standards of corporate social responsibility.

"We are confident that this collaboration will not only benefit our company but also set a benchmark for the industry in environmental stewardship," he added.
