KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Group Malaysia, the official distributor of BMW and MINI cars in the country, has launched the BMW M850i xDrive Coupe (The 8) with a price of RM1.09 million.
“At the BMW Group, we’ve always had our sights on the future and the first generation BMW 8 Series is testimony to that.
“First introduced in 1989, the luxurious sports coupe was bold and ahead of its time in terms of performance, innovation and luxury.
“It was the first BMW vehicle to introduce electronic drive-by-wire throttle, dynamic stability control and integral active steering with the use of multi-link rear axle technology.
“Three decades on, we have taken the future-looking legacy of the BMW 8 Series and we are bringing this luxurious sports coupe into the modern era to set standards for the future,” said its managing director Harald Hoelzl during the launching ceremony.
The BMW M850i xDrive Coupe is powered by the 4.4-litre twin-scroll turbocharged V8 engine mated to the 8-speed Steptronic Sports transmission.
It produces 530 hp between 5,500 to 6,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 750 Nm from 1,800 to 4,600 rpm.
BMW claims that the 8 can sprint from zero to 100kph in 3.7 seconds and the top speed is electronically limited to 250kph. Its combined fuel consumption is rated at 10.4 litres per 100km.
Some of the key features include BMW Laserlight headlamps, LED taillights, flap-controlled sports exhaust system, twin exhaust tailpipes, 20-inch M light-alloy wheels, 19-inch M Sport brakes with blue painted M callipers, multifunction seats, M leather multifunction steering wheel, active air flap control with adjustable kidney grille slats, M pedals, M driver’s footrest, M floor mats, Adaptive M Suspension, integral active steering, active cruise control with stop and go function, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch control display, BMW Digital Key and many more.
The BMW M850i xDrive Coupe also has the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, an intelligent digital character that responds to the prompt “Hey BMW”.
Safety aspects of the 8 includes the Driving Assistant Professional. The driver assistance includes lane departure warning, lane change warning, pedestrain collision warning, crossing traffic warning for front and rear, emergency stop assistant, steering and lane control assistant, lane keeping assistant with active side collision protection and evasion aid which now reacts to pedestrians.
There are six colour options — Carbon Black metallic, Black Sapphire metallic, Sonic Speed Blue metallic, Barcelona Blue metallic, Sunset Orange metallic and Mineral White, to match with Black, Cognac or Ivory White BMW Individual Merino full leather trim sports seat.
The 8 will be available at all authorised BMW dealerships nationwide from March 15, 2019.
