KUALA LUMPUR: Scania (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, the official distributor of Scania trucks in Malaysia, has introduced the New Truck Generation that has been developed for long haulage, construction and urban applications.
The New Truck Generation by Scania is equipped with an updated engine that cuts fuel costs by three per cent, roll-over curtain side airbags, enhanced driver's seat adjustment options, extended storage options and new infotainment system with 7-inch touch screen.
It also comes with a refreshed front and chassis for improved aerodynamics.
Improvements have been made to the P-series, G-series and R-series cabs. In addition, the company also launched the new L-series and S-series cabs to complete the full range of options for Malaysian customers.
The L-series cab is purpose-designed for urban application, such as distribution, refuse collection and maintenance, in congested city conditions.
The low cab puts the driver at the same level as other vehicles on the road. Meanwhile, the S-series cab, the tallest in the range, features a flat floor and high roof to maximise interior space and comfort for long-distance driving.
Scania also introduced the XT range to work in the rough terrains such as construction sites. It has a high air intake to supply the engine with the cleanest air possible in dusty environments and a tow pin with 40-tonne towing capacity in the front to enable the truck to be pulled out quickly if its gets stuck.
The XT range features a sturdy steel bumper, skid plate, headlamp protection, fold-out service step in the front bumper, inspection step at the side of the cab, and grab handles.
To further enhance the safety aspects, the New Truck Generation features a more robust monocoque structure with high tensile steel and it also comes with advanced emergency braking system.
The engineers have repositioned the front axle by 50 millimetres close to the front and a lower centre of gravity to create a shorter overhang and to reduce the degree of kneeling under heavy braking.
Drivers now have a better view of the road due to a lower instrument panel and optimised A-pillars combined with the positioning of the driver 6.5 millimetres closer to the windscreen and 20 millimetres towards the side.
The design of the steering column directly beneath the steering wheel is also intended to absorb impact energy and reduce impact force to the driver during incidents.
There are also optional camera sensors and other warning system to further enhance safety.
Scania's New Truck Generation has received several international accolades. It topped the 1,000 point test in 2016 and 2017, a fuel performance challenge scored by European trucking journalists and organised by Germany's ETM Verlag.
