MSc Professional Accountancy at Sunway TES CAE

AFFILIATES and members of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) professional accounting body are now able to pursue the Master’s in Science Professional Accountancy programme alongside students who are enrolled in ACCA courses at Sunway TES Centre for Accounting Excellence (TES CAE) in Malaysia.

ACCA students attain both the ACCA and MSc Professional Accountancy qualifications concurrently while affiliates and members gain an additional certification via the MSc programme in Malaysia at Sunway TES CAE.

Designed to support the candidates in developing high level knowledge and intellectual skills needed for leadership in the global finance arena, the MSc Professional Accountancy programme helps candidates to develop the commercial, strategic and creative skills needed to address the challenges in today’s fast paced, ever evolving business landscape and inter-connected world.

Offered in collaboration with ACCA and the University of London International Programme, there are two pathways to attaining the MSc Professional Accountancy additional qualification.

Open to current full-time ACCA students, who have passed all ACCA F1 to F9 papers or gained exemptions approved by ACCA, and passed ACCA professional level P1-Governance, Risk and Ethics, P2-Corporate Reporting and P3-Business Analysis papers, the first pathway requires these students to complete an additional three modules — Strategic Financial Management, Strategic Performance Management and Strategic Financial Project.

Open to those who have completed the ACCA programme, the second pathway for affiliates and members of the ACCA professional accounting body will require the completion of the Global Issues for the Finance Professional and Strategic Financial Project papers.

Students and candidates have the flexibility of completing the required papers of the MSc Professional Accountancy programme within six months to five years for both pathways. A practical and cost-effective route, the MSc Professional Accountancy option enables ACCA students, affiliates and members the opportunity to gain two qualifications concurrently — the ACCA and the MSc Professional Accountancy.

The Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) offered by The University of London International Programme is an option available to ACCA students who have completed the Fundamental level papers F1-F9. To earn the PGCert, candidates have to complete the Strategic Financial Management and Strategic Performance Management papers. Students with PGCert may pursue the MSc Professional Accountancy certification by transferring credits to the programme after completing P1, P2 and P3. This enables them to continue and complete the MSc programme under pathway one.

Launched at Sunway TES CAE early last month, the MSc Professional Accountancy programme is an effective way to secure a master’s degree and a professional accountancy qualification at the same time, according to Alan Hatfield, executive director (strategy and development) at ACCA. “We are working towards developing accountants the world needs. In Malaysia, 60,000 qualified accountants are needed by 2020, and we are working in partnership with Sunway TES towards this objective.”

Approved by the Higher Education Ministry, the MSc Professional Accountancy programme starts its first intake in July 2017 at Sunway TES CAE. Sunway College executive director Teo Ee Sing hopes this innovative programme will be highly attractive to working ACCA graduates looking to pursue their master’s.

An integral part of Sunway College, which offers internationally well-known professional accounting programmes, Sunway TES CAE has been awarded the prestigious 14th Platinum status by ACCA in recognition of its high quality academic standards and having quality graduates in high demand by the Big 5 Accounting Firms.
