Seri Puteri alumni to celebrate school's 50th anniversary in grand style

CYBERJAYA: The Alumni of Seri Puteri (PUTERI) has announced its lineup of activities to commemorate the school’s 50th year anniversary next year.

Themed ‘50 Years of Excellence’, the celebration is expected to garner the support of former and existing students, as well as teachers from around the world.

Jointly organised by PUTERI, Sekolah Seri Puteri (SSP) Cyberjaya and the school’s parent-teacher association (PTA), the year-long celebration will see an array of fun-filled activities.

PUTERI president Mastura Ma’sud said the celebration is a manifestation of the school's remarkable achievements since its establishment in 1968.

“While we look back and celebrate our 50 golden years, we continue to strive for excellence and serve a greater cause for our country’s nation-building efforts.

“Hence, the tag line ‘Celebrating our Past, Igniting our Future’ was chosen to complement the (celebration’s) official logo,” she told the New Straits Times today.

Formerly known as SMK Perempuan Jalan Kolam Ayer, the school was established in 1968. Khalidah Adibah Amin, fondly known as Adibah Amin, was the school’s first principal before she left to join the New Straits Times Press.

PUTERI also unveiled the celebration’s official logo, which was selected from a logo design competition held among its members. The winning Hibiscus-inspired logo was designed by Najwa Husni Yusof, a 1982 alumna.

Among the highlights of the year-long celebrations include the production of a coffee table book, a carnival at SSP, a hike up Mount Fuji, a spiritual journey to Mecca, movie nights at SSP Kolam Ayer and Cyberjaya, a gala dinner and a few other exciting programmes that will also include the underprivileged and neighbouring communities.

PUTERI will also initiate a fundraising project to provide the school with a new 40-seat bus.

SSP principal Nor Aishah Abdullah said students need to strengthen their competitiveness to become successful leaders in the country.

She said therefore, the alumni’s expertise and experience are needed to provide guidance and the necessary exposure to students to prepare them for the future.

SSP PTA chairman Hasnal Hashim said the school’s 50th anniversary is a significant milestone in its history and development.

“It provides an opportunity to reflect on our rich past and look forward to an exciting future as we continue to mould our students to be exemplary adults and leaders,” he added.

PUTERI welcomes all former students of the school to join in this golden jubilee celebration. Enquiries can be directed to ssp50years@gmail.com and further information can be obtained from ssp50years.puteri.org.
