Feng shui master Jane Hor tells Nur Zarina Othman that women will also figure prominently in the tech sector this Lunar New Year
THE rat is the first of the zodiac animals in the Chinese Lunar Calendar.
The myth goes that the Jade Emperor decided the order would follow the sequence of the animals’ arrival at his dinner party.
The quick-witted rat asked the diligent ox to give him a ride to cross the river. Just as they arrived, the rat jumped down and landed ahead of the ox, making him the first to arrive.
So what does the Rat Year means to the technology industry, feng shui-wise?
Feng shui master Jane Hor says the rat is clever, cunning and innovative. So this is the year for innovations.
She predicts that this year will herald more fire-related sectors like intelligence, Internet of Things, computing, robotics and e-commerce just like Shopee.
Hor bases her prediction using Shu Square or Nine Halls Diagram which has an important role in ancient Chinese mathematical and divinatory traditions.
According to her, there are nine in the grand cycle with each number representing one of the Chinese trigrams divided into 20-year cycles.
“Currently, we are at the end Eight,” she explains.
“As we are leaving the Period Eight characteristics of Period Nine are getting clearer. It is the time for Flying Star Nine, a very innovative star,” she says.
MODERNISATION IN HORIZON
Hor predicts that this will be a very good year for modernisation.
“The tech industry will grow at a faster rate. Areas like e-commerce and online banking will be strong as we progress towards Period Nine,” she adds.
“This will serve to raise wealth. The availability of new technology-driven and innovative products will also boost lifestyles.”
Hor says 2020 is also the year for women.
“It is the year where women will be in control. Technology will play a big role. The Flying Star Nine is about growing energy. You can expect to see more women making it big this year in the tech area.”
Hor also foresees more domestic technology innovations this year.
“Household technology products such as vacuum cleaners, rice cookers and other home gadgets will grow exceptionally this year.
“Women, meanwhile will gain more power both in the corporate and public sectors with more female leaders making their way to top government positions,” she says.
