#TECH: Cloud system initiative to help university students

KUALA LUMPUR: Intel Malaysia, in collaboration with Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) and CREST, has announced a new initiative to help universities' students through the launch of Systems Cloud for University, or SC4U today.

Launched by Minister of Human Resources, Datuk Seri M Saravanan, the SC4U aims to restore the hands-on learning experience for university students.

"The SC4U initiative is a great example of industry and academia working together to improve the competencies, skills and knowledge of Malaysia's talent pool," said Saravanan during his keynote address.

The event was attended by more than 100 participants from the university and academia community, CREST's chief executive officer, Jaffri Ibrahim and TalentCorp Group CEO.

The event was kick-started with Intel Corporation Vice president of Internet of Things Group, Eric Chan's welcome speech. In his speech, Chan said that the SC4U, although it won't be able to fully replace the experience of physical learning, it offers the best alternative to ensure hands-on learning is not forgotten.

"To be realistic, we won't be able to completely replace what the physical lab experiences can provide, but we strive to restore 80 per cent of the hands-on learning experience through the SC4U offering," said Chan.

Intel invested in a Systems cloud which consists of board combinations, systems and tools that will be made available through the cloud for students and lecturers to resume lab classes which were largely missed due to the pandemic.

TalentCorp on the other hand, will be taking the role of bridging the talent, particularly graduates, to utilise the same infrastructure to improve the employability of graduates, while CREST manages the engagement with universities.

"At CREST, we believe in the spirit of collaboration and strive to work with the industry and academia to grow a pool of domain experts as well as equip students with knowledge and skills for the future of work. We are honoured to partner with Intel for the roll-out of the programme through the CREST TheGreatLab (TGL) platform which hosts a network of educators and students," Jaffri added.

The SC4U programme originated from Intel's effort to provide better access and service, and support experience to a larger base of customers which was well received by Intel customers. Intel invested further in the system infrastructure to offer the services to universities, and to help bridge the current learning gap in Malaysian universities caused by the pandemic.

Intel, CREST and TalentCorp will collaborate closely to enable this new method of teaching and learning, in line with the 'new norm' in education.
