#TECH: Easy to use security camera

SECURITY camera maker EZVIZ has come out with the EZVIZ C3WN, which is an outdoor night vision security camera.

This easy to install camera comes in a baseball-sized form with two Wifi antennas and can be connected to home Wifi and subsequently to your smartphone for remote monitoring.Setting this device up is pretty easy.

Thanks to the simple set-up, this device can be up and running in about 10 to 15 minutes. What you need to do is first install the EZVIZ app and then enable WiFi connection.

Be sure to connect to the lower 2.4 GHz band instead of the 5 GHz one. Then, via the app, scan the QR code, which is available on the body of the device, and you will be automatically directed on the quick installation process. Once your phone is paired to the device and you can see what the camera sees, you're good to go.

One thing that may be a hassle is you have to screw this security camera to a wall (screws provided), but you can alsi place it on something flat like at the window's edge.

For this review I just placed it at my window's edge as it's quite stable. Furthermore, the device is quite hardy and can withstand the elements of nature like heat and rain drops.

Picture and video quality

The device has a detection range of about 30 metres and its camera has a 110-degree viewing angle and is capable of capturing 1080p video. Basically, the videos and photos produced are of high quality and very clear too, especially at night.

You can also set in the app the level of sensitivity of the camera sensor. Don't set it too high as it will detect even small flying insects and even lights. This can be annoying as the app will trigger as the camera detects something is moving. If you want to just detect large objects like humans, just set it to medium, which is good enough.

The integration of efficient infrared lighting, an anti-reflection panel and infrared filter enable excellent night vision. There is also a built-in strobe light and alarm work hand in hand with the motion detection.

For example, if the camera detects any movement within its area of coverage, the strobe light and alarm will be triggered. A notification will also be sent to the owner's phone.

There is a microphone icon on the EZVIZ app, and what users need to do is press the icon start talking. Their voice will come out from the camera's built-in HiFi speaker and it's quite loud too.Besides that, you can hear surrounding sounds as you watch the footage live.In terms of storage, the device offers two options — storing via MicroSD (up to 256 GB) card or cloud storage which can be purchased separately.

Price

The EZVIZ C3WN is priced at RM199, and available at Shopee and Lazada, as well as EZVIZ authorised dealers.
