#TECH: MEC records 12,000 players for its 2021/22 edition

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Esports Championship (MEC 2021/22), a national e-sports competition by Esports Integrated (ESI), a government-supported local initiative under the purview of the Ministry of Youth and Sports was concluded over the weekend.

Held at KL Gateway mall, the event took place in accordance with SOP to curb the spread of Covid-19, while fans on the other hand were able to watch the battle as the event was also live streamed on ESI's Facebook Page and Youtube channel.

Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker, who attended the closing ceremony, said that the increased number of participants as compared to the previous edition serves as proof that the local e-sports arena is growing and more talent needs to be cultivated.

"MEC 2021/22 falls under the allocation of the 2021 budget for e-sports to develop emerging e-sports talents in Malaysia. With a positive growing number of registrations of 12,000 players from last season, this is proof that we must continue to cultivate our homegrown talents and together with ESI, KBS will continue to support the e-sports industry. We hope this achievement will continue for the coming MEC seasons," said Ti.
