#TECH: Budget 2023: RM13 mil allocation will propel Malaysia's e-sports position in the region

KUALA LUMPUR: E-sports gets RM13 million allocation under Budget 2023. Commenting on the announcement made by Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, local telco Yoodo said the announcement is something that they welcome, especially as champion of mobile gaming in the country adding that it would continue propel Malaysia's journey to be the region's e-sports hub.

"We are glad that e-sports has received an allocation in the recent Budget 2023 announcement, allowing us to continue developing the industry and propel Malaysia to continue its journey towards becoming an e-sports hub for the region." said its head, Chow Tuck Mun.

Yoodo is one of the foremost players in the local e-sports scene and has effectively branded itself as "the go-to telco" for gamers, intrinsically tying the brand to an array of different games, and gaming activities and communities.

Commenting further on the benefits, Chow said that gamers are not the only people who would benefit from e-sports, the whole industry has created more jobs, allowing more people to have better, wider career options especially for youths.

"The e-sports industry is booming and more people are getting involved in the ecosystem directly, creating multiple job opportunities. It's becoming a career option for youths today and is fast gaining recognition worldwide."

He also said that e-sports is only just starting as it has just been recognised and "...it has also made its way into Asian Games and SEA Games demonstrating its growing popularity" proving that the industry is only growing bigger hence, it is a welcome gesture.

Yoodo has been within the gaming sphere, and is synonymous in Malaysia's e-sports scene, dominating two of the most popular mobile games – PUBG Mobile and MLBB.
