#TECH: Tech skills programme for B40 community

KUALA LUMPUR: Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera (Yayasan Peneraju) has partnered with an edutech platform, airasia academy, to improve stigmatised minorities' employability by offering them knowledge and marketable skills in the tech-driven economy.

The 200 B40 learners, fresh graduates, unemployed or those who lost their jobs will join the 10-day full fund training and job placement programme sponsored by Yayasan Peneraju with 'bootcamp' (fast track courses) by airasia academy in Digital Marketing, Software Engineering, Data Analytics, and Cloud Infrastructure.

Airasia academy's chief executive officer and Ventures Capital A president, Aireen Omar said the public is keen to pursue a career in technology areas, but now they are focussing on the underserved.

"This is what we stand for in airasia academy, it solidifies our stand in making education in technology more inclusive, accessible, and relevant to ensure the nation is fully prepared for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0)," she said.

Meanwhile, Yayasan Peneraju's Strategy and Communications director, Dr. Amina Josetta Kayani said they are teaming up with airasia to ensure that they level the playing field for those with "special" needs and circumstances.

"Even Huffaz, people with learning disabilities, and reformed juvenile offenders. This is why Yayasan Peneraju is working with airasia academy not just to provide adequate training but also to monitor their progress and guide them all the way to suitable employment opportunities that can help turn their lives around. Once the participants have completed their training, they will undergo the employment transition program which features a workplace simulation exercise to help them assimilate to the working environment and prepare them for their new career in the technology field," she added.

Aside from getting professional certifications, participants are entitled to soft skills training, curriculum vita workshop, sponsored food and accommodations during the course, and complimentary 12 months of access to airasia academy's on-demand learning (ODL) platform.
