WHILE actor and producer Datuk Rosyam Nor has had a variety of movie roles, such as action heroes, ruthless villains and father figures, he has yet to play a real-life person in a biopic.
This may change soon if he lands the role of Datuk Misbun Sidek in the biopic of national badminton champion Datuk Lee Chong Wei, Rise Of The Legend.
Rosyam said he was recently approached by film producer Josiah Chieng and his company, CB Pictures Sdn Bhd, which plans to cast a well-known actor for the role of the former national badminton coach.
“Chieng and his company have several actors in mind, and I’m one of those being considered. And as for possessing badminton skills, he told me it wasn’t a requirement,” said the 50-year-old artiste when met at the launch of Luxone argan oil, of which he is the ambassador, here recently.
“I would be honoured to play Misbun. I admire him as a great sportsman,” he added.
A fan of Lee’s, Rosyam said he had always admired the man who tirelessly worked to be the best in the sport.
Should the role fall into his lap, he jested that he might need a “makeover” to look more like Misbun.
Rosyam believes that playing Misbun would help him gain a strong following among Chinese-speaking moviegoers, just as his supporting role in the Indian movie Kabbali last year widened his appeal among fans of Tamil cinema.
The actor did a cameo appearance in the Chinese New Year movie Once Upon A Time, five years ago.
“Starring in that movie, even in a cameo, helped introduce me to Chinese-speaking fans, and I’m sure Rise Of The Legend will do the same too,” he said.
Rosyam’s production house Suhan Movies And Trading Sdn Bhd will also release an action comedy, Motor Terbang: Rempit Sampai Langit in December. It will star award-winning actress Nabila Huda Suhaimi, Cristina Suzanne Stockstill and comedians Tauke and Sharol of Raja Lawak fame, among others.
