Fathia wants to sing

FANS of popular actress Fathia Latiff may already be aware of her knack for singing.

A quick search on YouTube and you will find a number of videos of the 30-year-old artiste singing covers of popular hits like Dayang Nurfaizah’s Di Pintu Syurga.

Two years ago, Fathia performed live onstage at the Drama Festival Kuala Lumpur award show. She rendered a duet performance of Kisah Kita with ex-beau and fellow actor Aiman Hakim.

Fathia’s dream had always been to carve a name as a recording artiste. But as fate would have it, acting took precedence.

“Should an offer to pursue a singing career lands on my lap, I will take it.

“I love singing and I see myself taking the musical route in the near future,” she said at a breaking-of-fast event by Universal Music at Concorde Kuala Lumpur recently.

The Menanti Februari actress said that in recent times, it was common to see artistes dabbling in other crafts. However, she said, not many had achieved the intended recognition, thus creating a stigma against actors and actresses that tried to move beyond their day jobs.

When asked whether she fears the sceptics should she choose a singing career someday, Fathia said: “Not at all. I believe we should appreciate one’s talent and capabilities. Some may be good only in acting or singing, while some simply have the talent to perform well in both areas.

“We’ll see if opportunity comes knocking,” she said, flashing her megawatt smile.

Fathia recently became the talk of the town when her interview with the country’s fourth prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, was deemed “disastrous”.

She was criticised for acting “childlike” with Dr M, prompting netizens to call her uneducated.

However, Fathia declined to comment on the matter.
