KUALA LUMPUR: Andrew Lee performed a captivating, death-defying magic act that got the judges of Asia’s Got Talent Season 2 speechless and in awe.
Lee, who has been performing magic for the past 13 years, was featured in the show’s premiere episode, aired last night on AXN.
The 31-year-old magician and mentalist impressed judges with his entertaining act involving a deck of cards and a flying dagger, roping in show hosts Alan Wong and Justin Bratton.
Returning as judges are 16-time Grammy-winner David Foster and singer Anggun. This season also sees South Korean rapper Jay Park joining them on the judging panel.
“That was excellent, I don’t know how you did that but that was really an amazing trick. You had the blindfold on and threw the knife. I was flabbergasted, I don’t know what to say,” said Park.
“Great execution, great style, great confidence,” Foster added.
Lee received three yeses from the judges and he’s now hoping to be shortlisted as one of the contestants who get to go on stage again for the semi-final round next month.
Other Malaysian acts who performed in the premiere episode included a snake-handler who risked his life to kiss a cobra as well as a rapper who could rap in 10 different languages.
The first Golden Buzzer of the season came from Jay Park. His choice is ADEM Dance Crew from the Kyrgyz Republic.
“To be honest, I’ve seen a lot of animation shows but the way you put yours together is crazy. It was amazing, it was really, really good,” said Park.
ADEM dance crew will head directly to the semi-finals (without having to wait for the judges to decide and shortlist the 20 acts), just one more step closer to winning the grand prize of USD100,000.
Episode 1 will air again tomorrow at 5:30pm on AXN. New episodes of Asia’s Got Talent airs every Thursday at 8:30pm.
