KUALA LUMPUR: It’s barely a week away from top K-Pop group Super Junior’s comeback after a two-year hiatus, but there is some bad news.
It was reported earlier that members Sungmin and Kangin would not be participating in the promotions for the group’s eighth full album Play, set for release on Nov 6.
However, it was announced recently that Siwon, 31, would also be sitting the activities out.
Super Junior’s label revealed the news in a statement, apologising to fans who had been waiting for so long for the group’s comeback.
The statement did not pinpoint the reason for Siwon’s absence in the comeback promotions, but many suspect it has something to do with his French bulldog Bugsy.
Earlier this month, his four-legged pet was reported to have bitten a neighbour, who died days later from sepsis, a condition that occurs when the body’s response to infection causes injury to its own tissues and organs.
It was also reported that Siwon had skipped out on Super Junior’s ELF-Japan Festival 2017 ~Super Sports Day~ fan meeting in Japan that took place on Oct 24 and 25.
With Siwon’s non-appearance, the Super Junior members who will be joining the comeback promotions are Leeteuk, Heechul, Yesung, Shindong, Eunhyuk and Donghae.
According to HelloKpop, Kangin had chosen to withdraw from group activities after being charged for driving under alcohol influence in May last year, while Sungmin had much earlier on confirmed his withdrawal following fans’ boycott following his “unexpected” nuptials with musical actress Kim Sa-eun in December 2014.
The remaining Super Junior members, Kyuhyun and Ryeowook, are however, currently undergoing their mandatory military service.
For Play, the group released its music video for the song One More Chance yesterday. Its title track Black Suit will be released later this week.
Super Junior, which made its debut on Nov 6, 2005, is expected to go on its seventh concert tour, Super Show 7 in December.
