KUALA LUMPUR: Is it on? Is it off? Apparently the engagement between actress and TV host Elfira Loy and singer Sufian Suhaimi is still valid.
According to Sufian, 25, it was still on as long as the engagement ring that he had given to Elfira, 23, was still in her possession.
In a report by BH Online late yesterday, the singer said: “Wait until the discussion between the two families has concluded. Only then will I be ready to issue a comment. I have to respect my parents.”
His statement was a response to the news that Elfira’s mother, Filzah Yusoff, had told the media yesterday that the engagement was indeed off.
Sufian, who has kept pretty much mum about the much talked about matter, also defended his relationship with Elfira, whose real name is Nurul Elfira Loy Ahmad Sabri.
He said that there were no problems between them aside from some third party interference.
“Please wait and God willing, everything will be revealed soon,” he said.
It was speculated that Elfira’s father would return the engagement ring during the meeting with Sufian’s family sometime today.
In the earlier news report, Filzah said: “There’s nothing else for me to say. They are not meant for each other. Elfira’s father will meet up with Sufian’s family soon to settle the matter in accordance to tradition.”
She added: “We can plan but God determines what actually happens. Every mother wants the best for her children, including matters that involve a future spouse. I only hope that my daughter will be married to a man who is honest, religious and knows his responsibilities as the head of the family.”
Elfira and Sufian got engaged on Oct 6 last year and were expected to tie the knot next month.
Rumours of trouble in paradise began last December when the two lovebirds stopped uploading photos of the two of them together.
The actress had dismissed the rumours but admitted that there were some challenges in their relationship.
In a recent Instagram post on her official account, Elfira had requested for fans to keep a positive outlook and pray for the best.
Part of her post read: "You can speculate and say things but never know the real story.”
Although Sufian had previously been silent about the rumours, the Terakhir, Harus Aku and Terasa Ada singer had much earlier issued a statement saying that marriage was not a small matter since it also involved families on both sides.
