#Showbiz: Jamal and Dayang serenade secretaries

Singers Datuk Jamal Abdillah and Dayang Nurfaizah will perform at a special luncheon show to celebrate secretaries, writes Tahir Alhamzah.

THEY are both known for their singing prowess; while one is dubbed Malaysia’s king of pop, the other has been hailed as the country’s new millennium R&B sensation.

Singers Datuk Jamal Abdillah and Dayang Nurfaizah need no introduction, and their scores of fans are testament to their succesful careers, thanks to their melodious voice and great personality.

Come April 25, the two artistes have been scheduled to perform at Tenera Hotel in Bangi, Selangor.

In conjunction with this year’s Secretaries Week, the hotel has booked the two singers for an event called Luncheon With The Stars — In Celebration of Secretaries Week 2018 at its grand ballroom.

The two artistes have been chosen by the hotel’s management for the show simply because of their undeniable credibility as great singers.

“These two need no introduction and it is a great honour for us to present them both for the event on that day,” says the hotel’s general manager Muhamad Shafei.

As the performance will also be held in co-operation with Suria FM, the radio station’s listeners stand a chance of winning tickets to the luncheon.

Chill and relax

“I find seceretaries week shows are much more relaxed,” says Dayang at the press conference held at the hotel recently to announce of the upcoming performance.

“It’s been quite a while since I last sang at one. I didn’t perform at any in the past two years due to other commitments,” shares the 36-year-old singer who hails from Kuching, Sarawak.

The award-winning songstress also admits that she is excited to be sharing the stage with none other than the legendary singer Jamal again.

“Although I had performed on the same stage with him in the past, but I’ve never had any chance of performing a duet with him.

“While it may be easy for him to perform a duet with anyone, I think it’d be quite a feat for me to do so as his key is much higher,” admits Dayang.

At the moment, there are no plans for the two to be performing duets at the luncheon event. Both singers will be performing separately during the show.

“Right now, that’s the plan. I’m not sure if there might be some changes on the day itself. But if there is, I hope it won’t be too difficult for me. But I can’t promise for that now,” Dayang shares honestly.

Among the numbers which Dayang will perform are songs such as Separuh Matiku Bercinta, Seandainya Masih Ada Cinta and Dayang Sayang Kamu.

Sernading lunching ladies

Meanwhile, Jamal himself is also excited to meet his fans at the luncheon show.

“I hope fans out there would come to the show and catch both Dayang and me perform here in April,” says Malaysia’s king of pop who arrived at the press conference accompanied by his wife Datin Zai Izzati Khiruddin, 24.

“To the bosses out there, it’s high time to bring out your secretaries and enjoy the luncheon as well as chill out with us on that day,” says the 58-year-old singing legend.

On another development, besides this performance, Jamal is also scheduled for a special concert with another legend, Datuk M. Nasir at Istana Budaya from Aug 6 till 11.

It was reported that he will also invite the new talents who became popular on social media such as music-making app Smule and YouTube — Wany Hasrita and Australian singer Cassidy Anderson.

“Wany used to upload her video singing my songs on YouTube and it’d be interesting if we perform a duet together. But nothing has been confirmed for the performance at the luncheon yet.

We’re is still in the midst of finalising the show’s itinerary,” he says.

Tickets for the luncheon show are priced at RM280, RM380 and RM500 per pax. For more information on the show, call 019-2610796 or email enquiries to adib.m@tenerahotel.com.my
