#Showbiz: 'Thank you Malaysia and goodnight': TV3's Izwan Azir Saleh bids farewell

KUALA LUMPUR: News presenter Izwan Azir Saleh has long been dubbed ‘the next Datuk Mahadzir Lokman’ for his clear and commanding voice on TV3’s news programme Buletin Utama.

Sadly, the “star” of the 8pm news has decided to call it a day in broadcasting after 16 years with Malaysia’s first private TV station.

Izwan announced on Buletin Utama yesterday that he was “ending his long journey” to explore new things.

He also uploaded a video of his announcement on Instagram with the caption: “There must be an end to everything. After 16 years I have decided to end my journey in TV3, as I want to explore new things in the world beyond my studio.

“Sri Pentas has been a second home to me, with 1,001 beautiful memories.

“I am honoured and happy to have been a broadcaster and I have made lots of great friends amongst my esteemed colleagues – they will always be part of me.

“Thank you so much for supporting me since 2002.”

Izwan also said he had too many people to thank for guiding him in his career and everybody he worked with taught him important life lessons.

“I believe if I close one door properly, God will open a thousand more for me.

“Thank you Malaysia and goodnight from me, Izwan Azir Saleh.”

Izwan is known to be a fan of Mahadzir, who is a successful master of ceremonies and was a pioneer newscaster on TV3 in the 1980s and 1990s.

More than 400 Netizens congratulated Izwan, and wished him the best for his future.

Aida said: “Thank you Izwan. May you be successful always. I'll always remember you.”

Diana said: “I grew up watching you. All the best Izwan.”

“May you attain greater success Izwan. I’m sure you will shine further,” said Qisyarahna.
