#Showbiz: Namron proud to speak in Malay during New York Asian Film Festival Q&A session

KUALA LUMPUR: Actor and director Shahili Abdan a.k.a Namron was not only proud to debut his film Crossroads: One Two Jaga at the 17th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF), but he was also not shy to speak in Malay during a Q&A session with the organisers.
Through a live Q&A session on NYAFF’s Facebook page, Namron spoke mostly in Malay with a little dash of English while answering questions from the moderator.
“Initially, the plan was to speak fully in Malay, but I had to mix it up with some English as I was worried the message I wanted to deliver wouldn’t be translated properly by the translator,” he said in a recent news report.
Namron said this was not the first time he had spoken in Malay while answering questions during film festivals abroad.
“We should be proud of our national language as it represents our identity. In doing so, people will learn to appreciate and respect our language more,” he said.
The 49-year-old made headlines when his film Crossroads: One Two Jaga was up for the Tiger Uncaged Award for Best Feature Film at the annual film festival.
Besides Crossroads: One Two Jaga, another local film Dukun was also chosen for screening at the NYAFF.
Crossroads: One Two Jaga sheds light on a plot that focuses on police corruption and abuse of power. Namron is also part of the cast which is made up of Zahiril Adzim and Indonesian actors Ario Bayu and Asmara Abigail.
