#Showbiz: Communication, compassion and collaboration are key to our success, says BTS' RM

KUALA LUMPUR: Since its formation in 2013, K-Pop phenomenon BTS has been steadily building up its solid success around the world.

Where it was pretty common for previous generations of idol groups to disband or change its members after just a few years of being on the scene, BTS has showed potent longevity.

According to Koreaboo, fans have credited talented band leader RM for keeping the South Korean group in its prime.

In an interview with Money Today, the 24-year-old idol expressed that he was more a representative of BTS, rather than its leader.

“I get a lot of opportunities to talk, so I take care (of what I say) to not damage our reputation,” he said.

Speaking on the most difficult thing about leading a team, RM explained that keeping communication open and ongoing when all the members were busy was the hardest.

He then offered their solution to this. “The keywords we always keep in mind is communication and compassion. Those words might be cliché, but they’re also the unchanging truth.

“We have to talk, and when someone else talks, we have to try to see things from their point of view in order to be able to sympathise,” he said.

RM added that a leader should not force goals and dreams on other members or fans.

He said being a leader was not just about leading but also about reading the people surrounding them.

The seven-member group also puts a lot of importance on how individual expression comes through within the music outfit.

“Each member has a field they excel in. We don’t view this as an independent variable. We’ll teach one another what we’re good at and, through that synergy, step up a level,” he said.

The collaborative effort between the members seems to foster a stronger bond between them as well and is certainly part of BTS’ huge success and popularity.

Meanwhile, the New Year sees BTS breaking its own record and dominating the Billboard charts.

According to Koreaboo, Billboard had announced on Jan 1 that the popular music outfit was still at the No. 1 spot on the Social 50 chart.

This means that BTS has been at the top on the chart for 77 weeks in a row now. No other artiste has kept that position for that long of a period.

The group first entered the Social 50 chart on Oct 29, 2016, and have been at the top spot since July 29, 2017.

On Billboard’s Artist 100 chart, BTS sits comfortably on the No. 2 spot.

Soompi also reported that for the week ending on Jan 5, BTS holds the top three spots on Billboard’s World Albums chart.

The music outfit’s Love Yourself: Answer holds on to its No. 1 placing for the 14th week, followed by Love Yourself: Tear and Love Yourself: Her at the second and third spots respectively.

At No. 5 is BTS’ Face Yourself, with RM’s solo playlist mono. taking the seventh spot and fellow member J-Hope’s mixtape Hope World sitting still at No. 13.

Looks like it’s going to be another great year for the uber popular South Korean boy band!
