#Showbiz: 'Di Matamu' music video gets record 50 million views on YouTube

KUALA LUMPUR: When Sufian Suhaimi’s single Di Matamu made it to the upcoming Anugerah Juara Lagu 33 (AJL 33), he had expressed hope that it would garner 50 million views by the time the annual song competition takes place on Feb 3.

His wish came true at 4pm today, when the popular song’s music video on YouTube recorded 50,037,830 views, the highest in the Malaysian music industry.

The video which was uploaded in March 22 last year, is recording an increase by the minute.

Previously, the music video of Aiman Tino’s Ku Rela Dibenci which was uploaded on June 1, 2016, reigned on YouTube with 49,965,531 views.

An overjoyed Sufian described his “record-breaker” as a personal victory and phenomenon.

“This single about unrequited love put my name on the music map, and greatly helped my career. It also took me to Indonesia to record it as a duet with Shima Band, titled Di Matamu 2.0,” he said in a news report today.

Di Matamu is written and composed by Sirkhan and Rinkarnaen.

Sufian will soon appear in TV3’s telemovie Bayang and this will mark his first leading role.

Directed by Zul Huzaimy Marzuki, Sufian will star alongside Elisya Sandha Hassan.

He plays Pyan, an accountancy graduate who is a busker and delivery man. He is devoted to his ailing mother, and saves a girl named Maya from the flesh trade.
