KUALA LUMPUR: Pop queen Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza reigns on Instagram with almost six million followers.
To date, followers of her Instagram account @ctdk numbered at 5,987,997, while MeleTop co-host Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor comes close behind with 5,978,020 followers.
The figures were obtained from the Webstagram application which gives Netizens a more complete view of the number of followers celebrities have on Instagram.
Instagram accounts only show a celebrity’s followers in two-digits, for example 5.9 million for Siti and Neelofa.
Webstagram shows a seven-digit number of followers, and clearly shows Siti having 9,977 more followers than Neelofa.
Siti, who is currently in Jakarta, Indonesia promoting her Feb 21 concert Datuk Seri Siti Nuhaliza Live On Tour, expressed delight to be No. 1 Malaysian celebrity on Instagram.
“When I first opened an Instagram account, all I wanted was to follow the latest technology trends and also communicate more easily with fans, besides promoting my business products,” she said in a news report today.
“I never thought I’d have the most number of followers. Nevertheless, I’m thankful that being on Instagram has greatly benefited me and my followers.”
Besides Siti and Neelofa, actress Nora Danish is in third place with 5,769,002 Instagram followers, while comedian Zizan Razak comes in fourth with 5,605,741 followers.
Siti urged Netizens to “make good use” of social media.
“Besides uploading photos of me and my loved ones, Instagram has brought me closer to fans and customers. Technology develops fast and I don’t want to be left behind. At the same time, we must use it wisely and not abuse it.”
