KUALA LUMPUR: Red hot K-Pop group BlackPink has added more concert dates to its current ongoing world tour.
According to Koreaboo, the girl group’s agency, YG Entertainment, made an official announcement yesterday that the quartet would be heading to Australia.
The details were accompanied by a concert poster which made it clear that, as part of its BlackPink 2019 World Tour with Kia, the girls would be performing for their Aussie fans in Melbourne on June 13 and in Sydney on June 15.
This will mark the group’s maiden concert Down Under. It certainly will be an exciting affair as well since BlackPink member Rose grew up there.
The 22-year-old idol, whose real name is Roseanne Park, was born in New Zealand but later moved to Australia with her family when she was just seven.
According to news reports, it was her father that initially encouraged the budding singer to audition for a Korean entertainment company way back then.
Fortunately, she took up the challenge even though she had initially thought that he was just joking.
Since making its debut in 2016, BlackPink has become one of the most recognisable K-Pop groups worldwide and has succeeded in making an impact in the US.
The music outfit’s sold-out world tour in Asia began in Bangkok on Jan 11, which is where BlackPink member Lisa hails from.
More recently, the K-Pop sensation rocked Malaysians for the first time during its two-night concert last weekend at the Malawati Stadium in Shah Alam.
BlackPink is expected to head over to Taipei this Sunday to complete its Asian leg of the tour before flying off to the US and Canada in April and early May for its North American leg.
The rest of May will see the busy group, known for its big hits such as Ddu-Du Ddu-Du and Boombayah, performing for fans, or Blinks as they’re known, in Europe before heading to Australia.
