KUALA LUMPUR: Hell hath no fury like a Hallyu fan scorned!
This was a lesson actor Daler Yusuf learnt after leaving an unflattering comment on Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza’s Instagram account yesterday.
The mellifluous songbird had uploaded a wefie with popular South Korean actress and model Lee Sung Kyung.
Her caption read: “With beautiful @heybiblee.”
Many fans were apparently green with envy that Siti got to share a photo with the Korean celeb.
Unfortunately, not everyone agreed that the actress was that comely.
In the comments section, Daler had praised Siti’s beauty but at the expense of the Korean star. He wrote: “She’s full of plastic surgery and still you’re (Siti) more pretty.”
This naturally drew a strong reaction from other Netizens and fans of the Korean Wave of pop culture. Some were quite heated in their replies, while others were more level-headed.
One wrote: “But Mak Iti also gave her that title ‘beautiful’.”
Another said: “Sorry to say but downgrading others is not okay. I’m sure Dato CT will not approve of the comment.”
One other Netizen wrote: “No need for negativity, it’s no good.”
After noticing the barrage of negative response to his insensitive and superficial comment, Daler quickly issued an apology.
“I’m so sorry for the comment. I’m not a fan of K-Pop and it’s just I heard a lot about Korean artistes going for plastic surgery. And she’s too pretty to be natural. My bad. I’m sorry. We learn from mistakes and I learnt,” he wrote.
