#Showbiz: Faizal Tahir saves fan from suicide

KUALA LUMPUR: Award-winning singer-songwriter Faizal Tahir is known for his inspiring music, and to some fans, it is therapeutic and even life-saving.

The 40-year-old artiste in fact, helped save a female fan from attempting suicide last January through chatting with her online, and she is now hale and hearty, preparing for her wedding.

In an Instagram video which he uploaded yesterday, Faizal said that highlighting his handphone number in the video for his new single Bisa Aje on Jan 18, gave a “lifeline” to the young fan.

They subsequently had a friendly chat which lasted a few minutes, and while she initially sounded sad and tearful, the fan eventually cheered up.

“She was one of several random fans I chose to talk with using Instagram video chat. All of our conversations were informal, I answered all their questions and sang lines from my songs on request,” said Faizal in a news report yesterday.

“What caught my attention was, a day after I chatted with her, she showed me a screenshot of her earlier Twitter post which said that she was depressed and suicidal. She told me that she had been such, before she talked to me, and that our conversation made her become positive and strong.”

Faizal added that the fan thanked him for "”changing her life” and also revealed that she would be getting married soon.

“Thank God she’s all right. Amazing what on online chat can do,” he said.

Fans and followers, including musicians, praised Faizal for his caring ways.

DJ Fuzz said: “Lovely. Bless you brother.”

Arid said: “Good job Abang Faizal. To those who face difficulties, open your heart to those who care. God listens.”

Yukie said: “Beautiful. A random call can change someone’s life. How beautiful a day can be when kindness touches it. Thank you Faizal for sharing.”
