#Showbiz: BTS' Jimin helps students from his hometown with generous donation

KUALA LUMPUR: The boys of K-Pop sensation BTS may be international stars now but they never forget where they come from and are always spreading positivity around.

According to Soompi, it was revealed yesterday that BTS member Jimin had made a generous donation to students from his hometown of Busan.

The idol, whose full name is Park Ji Min, apparently contributed 100 million Won (about RM355,000) to the Busan Metropolitan City Office of Education.

The 23-year-old singer-songwriter and dancer’s father was said to have visited the office to personally hand over the donation to the Superintendent of Education.

Jimin’s charitable gift is expected to be used to help students from low-income families in 16 schools.

This is not the first time that the talented idol has helped students. He has apparently supported graduates of his alma mater, Hoedong Elementary School, before by covering their uniform expenses.

On a different note, BTS continues to make an indelible impression on the popular American Billboard charts for the week dated May 11, that was updated yesterday.

Soompi reported that the South Korean group’s latest mini album, Map Of The Soul: Persona, has now taken the No. 7 spot on the Billboard 200 chart, which ranks the most popular albums in the US.

This makes it the first Korean album to spend three weeks in the Top 10 segment of the chart, after it entered at No. 1 before dropping to a still respectable No. 3 last week.

On the Hot 100 chart, BTS’ title track, Boy With Luv which features American singer Halsey, took the No. 40 spot.

This makes the track the first song by a Korean group to stay put for three weeks in the Top 40 segment of the chart.
