#Showbiz: Farid Kamil pleads guilty to giving false evidence

KUALA LUMPUR: Actor Farid Kamil has pleaded guilty to a charge of giving false evidence in a police report pertaining to his drugs case at the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

While the 38-year-old artiste was initially charged under Section 192 of the Penal Code for fabricating false evidence, the charge was amended, and he pleaded guilty under Section 182 for giving false information, with intent to cause a public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person.

In his police report lodged in February last year, Farid claimed three celebrity friends had spiked his drink with drugs.

This he said had caused him to behave in a violent manner.

The names implicated were Taj, Osh and fellow actor Sofi Jikan.

It was said that Taj and Osh were referred to as Innuendo band member Ahmad Tajuddin Mohamed Tahir and a member of the nasyid groud Firdaus, respectively.

In a press conference last year however, Farid denied these were the Taj and Osh he meant.

Lawyer Mohamed Ashmeer Ashrof Raja, who represented Ahmad Tajuddin, has confirmed that Farid had pleaded guilty to giving false evidence yesterday.

Following his guilty plea, the husband of actress Diana Danielle was also slapped with a fine of RM2,000.

Farid has other criminal cases pending in court, including voluntarily causing hurt, using criminal force, using of the drug THC and disorderly conduct.
